Creative Commons 2020 Global Summit

Creative Commons (CC) held its 2020 Global Summit recently. Conducted virtually, the summit welcomed over 1300 people from over 60 countries. CC is a global non-profit that helps individuals and organizations share knowledge and creativity

Participants chose from over 170 available sessions and explored varied topics from open licensing to environmentalism. The summit agenda with details of the sessions are now available for all to access.

The Global Book Alliance is delighted to work with Creative Commons. Platforms such as the Global Digital Library, which is a flagship of the GBA, would not be possible without the work of Creative Commons in building and sustaining a standardized language and licensing system for publicly available resources.

The Global Digital Library contains over 5000 openly licensed resources in 72 languages. Recent additions include six languages spoken in Pakistan, as well as COVID-19 content for young readers.

In April and May of 2020, Creative Commons partnered with the GBA on Translate A Story, a global initiative to help translate children’s books into needed local languages. The GBA looks forward to collaborating with Creative Commons and other partners in a follow up translation sprint in 2021 to make more books openly available to the children who need them.
