In January 2024, GBA Chair Sakil Malik attended the National Textbook Festival in Dhaka at the invitation of the Bangladesh Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. Sakil participated in this event alongside other guests such as Former Director General of Primary Education, Shaymal Kanti Ghosh; State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Ministry, Md Zakir Hossain; Primary and Mass Education Secretary, Farid Ahmed; and Director General of the Directorate of Primary and Mass Education, Shah Rezwan Hayat. The annual festival aims to provide students across the nation essential textbooks and serves as a testament to the government’s support in enhancing access to quality books and increasing literacy rates in Bangladesh. This year, a total of 30,70,83,517 copies of new textbooks are set to be distributed among 3,81,28,354 students.
Free, accessible, and appropriate books and other teaching and learning materials are critical to achieve learning outcomes. The GBA is committed to ensuring that all learners can access books and other reading materials in languages they understand and use.
