The Global Book Alliance is a partnership of donor agencies, multilateral institutions, and civil society organizations that are committed to bringing books to every child in the world by 2030.

Over 617 million children and adolescents are not learning the basics of reading and mathematics. In part, this is due to the fact that 40% of young learners cannot access an education in a language they understand. Drastic change is in order to meet our 2030 Sustainable Development Goal for education. As part of that change, the global community must guarantee that children everywhere have the essential books and learning materials they need to learn to read.

We are engaged in an inclusive planning process to meet this challenge. By building sustainable markets for the provision of reading materials produced in languages children use and understand (including braille and sign languages), the Alliance strives to open the door to lifelong learning for millions of children who don’t currently have books from which they can learn with ease. Together, we’re working to eliminate book hunger for children around the world.

When a child learns to read, the entire world reaps the rewards.

To reach our goal, the Alliance will advance two key outcomes to activate the book chain.
